My name is Casey Day-Crosier, and I run Tangerine Designs. I design accessories, sew project bags, make knitting needle gauges, and pretty much knit constantly. I live in St. Peters, Missouri – a suburb of St. Louis – with my husband and two girls. I work for a Local Yarn Shop, as staff and a knitting instructor. I love being apart of a great community of fiber artists.
How did you get into knitting/crochet and who taught you?
I tried learning to knit from books, but it never made sense to me. But after a friend picked it up, I decided to try again – but with YouTube as a guide. You could say that I’m a graduate of YouTube University!
What made you want to start designing?
Tangerine Designs was originally just Project Bags and other accessories for fiber crafters. Several years ago my father got very sick, and it was hard to keep up with sewing from home. But knitting is portable! You can knit in hospital rooms. And with ideas popping into my head as I was knitting other things, I just decided to get those ideas out of my head and down on paper. It gave me a creative outlet in the midst of hardship.
What’s you favourite part of the design process?
What inspires you?
Are you a full-time or part-time designer and how does that fit into your life?
Do you have a favourite thing to design and why?
Do you have much time to make things for yourself or for gifting?
If someone knitted or crocheted a gift item for you, what would you love the most?
Anything! I know the work that goes into such gifts, and just being thought of is heart-warming.
Do you have a favourite yarn and why?
What’s your favourite of your own designs and what do you love about it?
Is there anything new you can tell us about or a recent design you’d like to chat about?
I have an idea percolating using this fantastic color called Mustard Seed from O-Wool. I’m actually getting ready to swatch this afternoon.
What’s your favourite colour?
I love teal and aqua. Probably half the things I create are in that color range. I’ve been trying to remember that there are other colors, but it really is a struggle.
Have you been a participating designer in the Indie Gift Along before and what do you love most about it?
Which Gift Along 2019 designers inspire you and why?
I just discovered Megan Nodecker, Pip and Pin. I’m really loving her aesthetic. And I love her sweaters. I admire anyone that does garments since I’m an accessory designer.
