About my Garnered Test Knit for Alicia Plummer
I recently completed the Garnered Test Knit for Alicia Plummer, using some blue aran wool/acrylic blend. The colour is Denim blue but it’s a warmer denim rather than a cool, dusty denim colour you’d see in say Stylecraft yarns.
The cardigan is worked bottom-up in pieces. The shoulders are joined with a three needle bind-off / cast-off. You seam the sides, then pick up stitches for the sleeves and work down in pattern, to the cuff (ribbed for a wool version, stocking stitch in linen). The hem is picked up and either ribbed, or stocking stitch, depending on whether your cardigan is wool or linen. Last of all is the collar/band for the fronts. There is some short row shaping, but I didn’t do those, I ribbed 16 rows to get the depth of band that I wanted.
My sleeves are short to around elbow length and it’s comfortable to wear. I wore it on our Facebook live, episode 105 if you watch our YouTube channel Knitting Across The Pennines.
It’s a lovely garment and I think it would be great for Summer in a linen yarn, or maybe flax, but cotton would probably stretch too much width ways for my liking.
I’m a 43 in bust and knitted the 44″ size and it fits perfectly, for someone slim and willowy, the positive ease suggested in the pattern would be gorgeous.
