The Aline Modular Cardigan pattern is adapted from our famous Amazing Modular Baby Cardigan but includes a different modular approach and the option of featured/visible joins or hidden joins.
There are short row side gores to give the Aline shaping and you can make them narrower for a leaner fit or leave them out altogether if you prefer a boxy fit.
Uses self striping or plain, Aran/Worsted weight yarn 16sts 30rows to 4in/10cm square in garter st.
I’ve made this and the baby version in dk, worsted and aran and all worked really well, the only difference is drape, dk is softer and lighter than aran so the cardigan will be more flowing.
If you want a good result, work the icord finishing as you complete your garment. The neckline needs it for stability and to ensure the fit is correct for you.
Sized 34-62 inch chest, finished measurements #sizeinclusive. Recommend Ease is 0-4 inches for most body shapes. I’m bottom heavy pear shape and would wear a smaller size than usual as my shoulders are narrow. If you’re not sure, drop me a pm on Rav and I’ll be happy to help.
The cardigan is worked in modular pieces which are joined as you knit them. You start with the upper back, then work down to the hem, work the fronts, then down to the hem from each front.
You will work short row panels at the sides of the body to create the aline shaping and then knit the sleeves top down (either flat or in the round).
You add icord borders to finish the cuffs, hem, front bands and neckline which helps to keep the fit neat and stop the growth often associated with garter stitch. It also adds stability to the borders, neckline and cuffs.
With immense gratitude to my awesome testers:
