Wheatsheaf Boot Cuffs Knitting Pattern

I don’t know about you, but I hate cold ankles.  Especially where my bootcut or skinny jeans don’t reach the top of my shoes and there’s an annoying gap.   I tend to wear boot cuffs and they’re such a quick knit they also make a great Christmas Gift.  There, I’ve said it, the C word.  I’m sorry, but it’s got to be done.

The Wheatsheaf Boot Cuffs are a very quick knit, great for gifts (Christmas knitting alert!) and will help you use up some stash.   I used just over 200 yds of the Lamb’s Pride Worsted for the Turquoise pair of Wheatsheaf boot cuffs, using 5.5mm needles for the cables and 3.75mm needles for the ribbed cuff.    The purple pair of Wheatsheaf boot cuffs are made using Knit Picks WOTA Superwash and I dropped to 5mm needles for the cable section.    Super speedy and they fit over my welly boots, my ankle boots and even my wide fit knee high leather boots.

The Wheatsheaf Boot Cuffs match the Wheatsheaf Hat, Wheatsheaf Cowl and Wheatsheaf Mittens.  We also recently added the Wheatsheaf Aran Socks to the collection.

Wheatsheaf Mitten Pattern in 4 Sizes

We recently released our Wheatsheaf Mitten Pattern, for sale on Ravelry.    I used some wonderful Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Worsted which was a gift from the lovely Joan Dyer.     The Wheatsheaf mittens use different needle sizes to achieve four sizes from Ladies Small/Child up to a Mens size.

The stash buster Wheatsheaf Mitten pattern makes for a quick knit, a few evenings by the fire and are toasty warm.     Great for gifting and a chance to use up a bit of stash, you’ll need between 160-300 yards (depending on size and if you make the longer, folded cuff.

Wheatsheaf mitten pattern, mittens are shown on a crochet blanket, the pattern for that is the Garden Route Blanket by Emma Varden. I miss this for my son’s girlfriend and it worked well with the Wheatsheaf mittens for the photo.

The Wheatsheaf Mitten pattern is designed to match the Wheatsheaf CowlWheatsheaf Hat and Wheatsheaf Boot Cuffs/Toppers. I love cables and wanted something that was both fun and quick to knit. This cable pattern reminded me of a Wheatsheaf at harvest time, though some say it reminds them of warm Winter Kisses?   They’re perfect as a portable project and for Christmas knitting.

About the Wheatsheaf Mitten Pattern

The Wheatsheaf mittens cuff is ribbed (K1, P1) and can be made longer for a double thick folded cuff which will be snuggly warm around the wrists on cold days.   They don’t use much yarn so they’re a fabulous stash buster project, I used between 166 and 300 yds, depending on the size made.

There are both charts and full written instructions for the cables. Sizing is achieved by using smaller or larger needles. For example, it is possible to make a Large size mitten using 5mm or 5.5mm to achieve an XL.

The only adjustment you’ll need to make is the length of the thumb to suit the recipient which could be longer or shorter. I made a medium for myself and shortened the thumb length for my shorter hands.

The Wheatsheaf mittens are worked in the round using either circular needles (magic loop) or double pointed needles (dpns) and are worked bottom up from cuff to finger tips.

I’ve made another pair of the Wheatsheaf mittens using some Rowan Yarn Company Cashsoft Aran, in the same pink colour I used for the Wheatsheaf Hat and Cowl, they’re super warm and so soft to wear.

Gift Knitting Ideas

My Mum has asked for a pair of Wheatsheaf Mittens with a flip top, so that’ll probably be one of my Winter projects for this year.    She fancies either an Olive Green or Mustard colour.   She has a really cute cowl in the Olive Green and this would go nicely with it.   If she’s lucky she might get them in time for Christmas.

I knitted some mittens for my Dad a few years ago, a traditional Scandinavian style pattern and lined with alpaca yarn.   They’re toasty warm and he loves them, however, I think he’d have preferred gloves.  I would knit him some but he has hands as big as shovels and in the time it took me to knit these, I could have knitted two sweaters for myself.   Yep, I’m a self-confessed selfish knitter.

Have you got any Gift Knits planned for this year?

I’m working on a new cowl design at the moment.  If you’d like to see it, check out the blog for info as I’ll be showing you sneak peak first week of November 2019.

I’m knitting the new cowl with some fabulous Lanas Stop Dulce Cashmere, which is a merino, silk, cashmere blend, in a muted Forest Green.  I’m loving how it’s knitting up so far.  It’ll be a loop or infinity style cowl with a little bit of lace and a little bit of simple knitting.  I’m so excited to show it to you.

My lovely friend, Tanja Luescher, released a fabulous pattern today.  It’s for the Last Minute Magic Cowl, is made using bulky/chunky yarn and 5mm needles.   It’s a super quick knit for those of you making Christmas or Holiday Gifts.   Tanja used some Eco-alpaca but this would be lovely in any chunky/bulky yarn and will fly off your needles.
